Organize All The Things! Make a Floral Wire Organizer

Hiya guys!   So I did this thing a while back…  and I posted a snap shot of it on Instagram and TONS of people loved it.  So I thought I’d show you how I did it.

I might have already told you , but I am a little bit OCD about organizing things. OK, well maybe more than a little bit.  It’s just one of those things that is really satisfying to me.  Everything has a place and everything in it’s place, you know what I mean?

So I really love to find cool and nifty contraptions I can organize my stuff with.  And if I can’t find the right THING to get something organized I get creative and MAKE a THING.

So one day I was cleaning my sugar flower making desk and I had an epiphany.  I had always struggled with those long packs of different floral wires.  You gotta keep them in their packs so the different thicknesses don’t get mixed up but they are so long, there isn’t a great way to store them and still have easy access to them.

Then it hit me.

BUBBLE TEA STRAWS

Ta Da!!

Perfectly organized, easy to grab just the one you need and there is even a row for your short pieces in front!  Sweet!

LET’S DO THIS!

It’s super quick and easy.  I made mine to just tape on the side of my flower cutter drawers.  But I’m going to show you how to make an independently standing one.

This is what you need to gather

Floral wire organizer

~ Bubble Tea straws (however many different sizes and colors of floral wire you have)

~ A piece of foam core. Approximately 4″ x 12″.  Doesn’t have to be exact

~ Packing Tape

~ Hot glue gun

~ Scissors, xacto knife, ruler and sharpie

First cut about a 3″ strip off of the foam core. Then hot glue it it the bottom of the long piece in a T shape.  This is your stand

Now hold up a straw to the stand and cut off the excess that sticks up over the top.  You want the small piece to be at least 2 inches long, you will use it later.

Now use the long piece as a guide and cut all of your straws that length

Now lay all the long pieces side by side with the ends even.  Wrap a long piece of packing tape around front to back to hold them together

Prop your stand up at an angle and lay your straw bundle in place.  Tape again around it securing it to the stand.

Do the same with the short pieces and tape them in front of the long ones.  This row is for your small cut pieces of wire.

Now with a sharpie or a label maker, label each straw with the gauge of wire.

And you are done!

See?  Easy Peasy!

  3. Hi Shani! Where do you purchase your floral wire? Is it just at a local craft store? I found those kinda pricey! Thanks
